Relationship with Family: Strained at best. His parents want him to become a doctor. He's enrolled in medical school, but the pressure is too much for him. First semester he made the Dean's list and everything came easily to him, just as it did in high school. Now he's struggling, having found his way into drugs, parties and other deviant behavior and he's having a hard time. He's found he just doesn't give a shit about a whole lot. Daniel being hospitalized isn't helping things much, either.

The process of coming up with a name, kept for my own reasons:

First Names
  • Blake - From a surname which was derived from Old English blæc "black" or blāc "pale".
  • Sable - From the English word meaning "black", derived from the name of the black-furred mammal native to northern Asia, ultimately of Slavic origin. (Think this is a good name for his dog, maybe)
  • Caleb - Means "dog" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this was the name of one of the twelve spies sent by Moses into Israel. Of the Israelites who left Egypt with Moses, Caleb and Joshua were the only ones who lived to see the promised land.
  • Conor - Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Conchobhar which means "dog lover" or "wolf lover".
  • Emery - Norman form of EMMERICH. It was introduced to England by the Normans, and though it was never popular, it survived until the end of the Middle Ages. As a modern given name, it is likely inspired by the surname Emery, which was itself derived from the medieval given name. It can also be given in reference to the hard black substance called emery.

Last Names
  • Cerny - Means "black" in Czech.
  • Cole - Means "black" in Old English.
  • Delaney - Old Irish Ó Dúbhshláine, derived from the word dubh meaning "dark or black", and the name of the river Slaine (Slaney). Alternatively, the second element may be slan meaning "defiance". The first bearers of this surname were a sept within the areas now known as Laois and Kilkenny, though they probably had migrated westward to this area from the Wicklow / Enniscorthy / Wexford area, due to their original proximity to the Slaney River. The most famous person to bear this name was a Church of Ireland clergyman and close friend of Jonathan Swift: Patrick Delaney (1685-1768).
  • Dolan - From the Gaelic Ó Dobhailen, meaning "black defiance, challenge". It is derived from dubh meaning "dark".
  • Astrauckas - Lithuanian; It is of disputed origin either from the Polish ostrega "dweller by the blackberries", ostry "sharp, keen" or ostrouszek "sharp ear, a type of mixed breed dog"
  • Gagnon - French; Derived from old French gagnon "guard dog". The name most likely started as a nickname for an agressive or cruel person.
  • Pound - English; Occupational name for a person who kept animals, from Old English pund "animal enclosure" (as in dogpound).
